We are often asked what to do with the fish? We offer the following as our Opinion only, and consider legally caught fish your property. We will help you to release the fish unharmed or keep the fish you catch which ever you decide. There are basically two types of taxidermy mounts: the first is a skin mount were the taxidermist actually use the fish you catch. If you are planning to have a skin mount made of your fish, let us know ahead of time so we can handle your fish in the proper way. It should be touched as little as possible, not cleaned, and laid out flat on ice and borax applied or rubbed on the skin. Then the fish should be wrapped in newspaper and frozen solid. A taxidermist should have already been chosen and contacted by you and explained what you want to do ahead of time.
It is our opinion that Lake Trout make ugly skin mounts!
Plastic reproduction mounts are the second type, the taxidermist uses pictures, measurements and weights to craft a life like reproduction of the fish, There is no need to kill the fish, which can
be released unharmed. You can see several reproduction mounts at the
marina store: also you can take your time in choosing a taxidermist,
comparing prices and quality of work. It is our opinion that plastic
reproduction mounts are more realistic and look better, and are
preferred over skin mounts.![]()
Lake Trout as Food

Some people will tell you that Lake Trout are not good to eat. They are crazy! Lake Trout are excellent eating, large, small or any size and there is allot of steaks on a 30lb fish. But you must know how to cook it. Here are three ways to cook Lake Trout,
(1). Take a large cleaned Lake Trout and freeze solid, straight and flat, After the trout is frozen have it cut into !: Salmon steaks. Take an unfrozen steak and apply lemon pepper, put it on a sheet of aluminum foil and place in the barbeque out side. Turn once and do not overcook, eat with tarter sauce, yum to die for. (Warning do not cook lake trout indoors with skin on, it will stink up your house)
(2). Take and unfrozen steak and trim all the skin off, season place in hot frying pan that has just a touch of oil in it, do not overcook, turn once. (Warning do not cook whole Lake Trout with the skin on anywhere, anyway.)
(3).Fillet the Lake Trout leaving no skin or bone, slice into manageable pieces, batter and deep-fry. (Warning does not bake or boil Lake Trout, it is just plain awful that way, and it can start your oven on fire)
